The congregation I was in was kind of mixed mostly white, black and hispanic not many asians. Being white I never felt anything odd with the blacks but I did with the hispanics. I felt a subtle dislike directed at me be that as it may i just tried to ignore it and act normal.

2011 District Convention "Let Us Be Bored and Confused Into Obedience"
by ranmac inthis has already been discussed but i need to vent.. i just spent the most painful weekend of my life sitting thru this years dc.
what an unbelievably pointless, soulless and demeaning spectacle the assemblies are.
the three days were a blur of monotanous droning and brainwashing.

It is my experience not having been raised a jw, that there is an artificial feeling of having lots of friends and lot's of social life in the org. but the reality is that most people except for certain times like maybe high school don't really know that many people well. When we first became jw's we thought wow we have alot of friends but easy come easy go they just had to pretend to like us.
Now that we have left it's back to reality we're too off beat for most people even as witnesses we were too weird but they included us because they had to. We thought we didn't have friends before but now with the x-jw under our belts we really seem strange to people.
It's a fantasy to think that you will be surrounded by lot's of caring friends, you can acquire some acquaintances for a little company and entertainment but that's what it is. Human beings have a somewhat singular existence especially in the world we live in now it's hard to find others with similiar interests since there's alot of different things to be occupied with.

My Trip to the Unitarian Universal Church

but, either because of my 20 years in a jw daze, or because humans just desire this, i miss the community.

I just got carried away with my thoughts.
I wonder who makes decisions about what the national anthem will be for any given country. You said the one in japan is gloomy how long has it been sung as the anthem?
Maybe it was chosen during a sad time and seemed appropriate at the time. i wonder if a country ever voted one out they didn't like.

I don't really like national anthems.
It's okay to feel good about the place you call home but not to the point where nationalism takes over and one feels superior or special these things lead to war and terrible things.
Songs do have beauty but sometimes they stir up dangerous emotions.
I find it difficult to be objective about anthems because of the destructive history of the human race.
Woody Allen once made a joke saying that everytime he hears wagner he feels like marching on Poland.
